Abstract

Biochar, a material made mostly of carbon, is made by heating types of waste biomass at high temperatures from 300 to 900 °C. Orange peels are a part of the food waste generated every year. They can be turned into biochar, which's rich in carbon and can be used to clean wastewater. In this study biochar made from orange peels was effective in removing types of pollutants. The temperature at which the biochar was made had an impact on how well it worked. When the temperature was higher, less biochar was made. The biochar had good properties like high carbon content, a big surface area and more fixed carbon. The results highlight the potential of orange peel-derived biochar as an adsorbent, for wastewater treatment. Adsorption capacities were strongly influenced by experiment conditions. It was noted that adsorption data was obeying Langmuir model and Freundlich isotherm. In conclusion, dye compounds, organic pollutants, heavy metal ions and could be effectively removed using orange peel-based biochar.
